Hair restoration is a long-term, visible result performed in an industry with wildly uneven standards. The difference between outcomes is rarely the machine — it is the team, their judgment, and how honestly they set expectations. These seven questions surface all three.
The seven questions
- Who actually performs my procedure — and how much of it? Ask what the surgeon does personally versus the technicians.
- How many procedures like mine does the team perform in a typical month?
- May I see healed results of patients with my hair type and pattern — with their consent?
- How do you decide my graft count, and what happens if you recommend against surgery?
- What is the full price, in writing, and what could change it?
- How is my donor area protected for the decades ahead?
- What does aftercare include, and who do I call if something worries me at 9 pm?
Green flags and red flags
Green flags: a candid assessment that includes non-surgical options, consented before-and-after cases, a written flat price, and a team that talks about donor stewardship unprompted. Red flags: pressure tactics, guaranteed graft counts before an exam, prices that only exist today, and results that all seem to belong to someone else.
Wherever you end up — here or elsewhere — take this list with you. A practice that welcomes these questions is a practice that expects to be judged by its results.
